Flavorful Beef Here

If you’ve read my blog before then you know that we raise cattle and they are grain fed.  That is the cattle that were born here, weened from their Moms, and fattened out for our freezer beef sales.  The grain that we feed them is grown here on the farm, and then we add Land O Lakes supplement, which is vitamins and minerals.

The grain is the field corn that we grow in our fields, harvest in the fall, and then store in the grain bin for later use.  My Farmer ensures the ground is at its best, prior to planting the field corn seeds, by doing soil samples that our local Co-op tests.  If needed we add the nutrients needed prior to planting.  The field also gets a dose of fertilizer, and sometimes weed killer so the weeds don’t rob the corn of the nutrients it needs from the ground to grow.

When we need grain for the cattle it’s extracted out of the grain bin into a gravity wagon, run through the feed grinder with the added supplement & molasses, and then loaded into the bin close to the barn.  The molasses gives the grain a sweet taste, which keeps the cattle coming back for more.  Along with the supplement it also gives our beef the flavor that we and our customers enjoy.

Many customers have asked if our cattle are organic, and my answer to that is they are as organic as you can get.  They don’t receive hormones and they don’t have the preservatives that store bought beef has to keep it looking fresh.  However there is fertilizer & weed killer put on the fields for the benefit of growing great field corn, but that’s about it.

Where do you buy your beef?
