Believe it or not my boys love doing crafty things, but I will say that it’s not as much as some girls. For instance, my sister and I learned to cross stitch & plastic canvas crafts from Grandma. We also made friendship pins and bracelets using embroidery floss. We loved doing it all, but they were hours and hours of tedious work. The boys are immediate gratification crafters so simple ones are better for them.
Recently my oldest learned how to make people out of pipe cleaners. So for Christmas Santa left three colorful packets of pipe cleaners as well as some beads to create the look of clothes on the people. They’ve made lots of pipe cleaner people and I’m finding them all over the house. What a hoot!
Origami may not be a craft per say, but it’s something they enjoy too. The different things you can make out of folding and manipulating paper is amazing. So far we’ve made airplanes, of course, a canoe, and frogs.
This past Christmas instead of having them decorate sugar cookies we made Gingerbread houses. They enjoyed constructing the walls, adding the roof, and using the candy to decorate. A lot of candy that I had set aside for decorating gradually disappeared and I know it didn’t end up on their houses.
Those are just a few ideas of crafts for boys we’ve done lately. I’m sure we may come across more later and I’ll be sure to share.
