It's All About Routine

I’m learning time and time again if I don’t make something part of my routine it isn’t going to happen or get done.  Whether it be exercising, taking my vitamins, reminding and enforcing the boys to do their chores, or whatever the case may be.  I’ve learned for me, as a Mom of three boys, I need to make whatever it is that’s important part of my routine or it won’t get done.

When the boys are in school there is a definite routine and things flow smoother and I get things done due to that routine.  I must say I do enjoy the summer vacation when we get a break from routine, but I truly struggle with getting things accomplished because summer days are taken day by day.

Here’s a good example, which happens to be about exercising and something most of us struggle with.  I FINALLY after 8 1/2 years of taking care of little ones I  got back into an exercising routine.  My oldest was in 3rd, my middle son in Kindergarten, and my youngest in preschool for three mornings a week.  There it was my opportunity to make exercising a priority again!  So while the youngest was at preschool I was at the local Curves not only exercising, but also chatting it up with the other women that were there.

Karte Time!

Karte Time!

Unfortunately my exercising priority came to and end at the end of the school year and I was bummed.  Just recently though I found another way to fit it in!   The boys started taking karate in a neighboring city for an hour 3 nights a week.  After 3 months of sitting there watching them it dawned onto me that I could be exercising myself because that city had a Curves too.  Whoo Hoo I was back in business and therefore not sitting on my butt for an hour.

I know I know you’re probably thinking I should stay and watch my boys, but not to worry I have a plan.  Right now they’re in a younger class, and the next class up is the family class.  When they all graduate to the family class I plan to join them and not just watch.  Furthermore, when the school routine starts again I’ll be back in business with workouts while the youngest is doing his second year of preschool, which will then enable me to watch them at karate again.

Exercising is just one of many things that become possible when I incorporate it into my routine.

What becomes possible for you?
